Sometimes you want a user to enter a field in a specific format, like date or time fields. A lot of error handling (and patience from the user) is needed to check if the user has entered a value in the right format. By creating a button with a selection input makes it a lot easier. To prevent a user from still entering or changing a value into a wrong format you can simply disable the onFocus event of this field by setting the focus to another field or button.
